Under this scheme, the central government is providing a flat subsidy of up to ₹78,000 directly into your bank account to install rooftop solar panels. Not only do you get 300 units of free electricity every month, but you can also sell the extra power back to the grid!

The subsidy amount is fixed based on the capacity of the solar plant you install. Here is the official breakdown:

Note: The remaining cost needs to be paid by you, but low-interest loans (at roughly 7%) are available from all major banks instantly through the portal.

Who can apply for this scheme?

  • Ownership: You must have an electricity connection in your own name (or family member’s name).
  • Roof Space: You must have a suitable roof (pucca roof preferred) to install the panels.
  • Previous Benefits: You should not have availed any solar subsidy in the past.
  • Income: Valid for Middle Class and Lower Middle Class families (Income < ₹10-15 Lakhs preferred).
  1. Electricity Bill (Latest, not older than 6 months).
  2. Aadhaar Card.
  3. Mobile Number (Linked to Bank).
  4. Bank Passbook (For Subsidy Transfer).

The process is 100% paperless. Follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Registration
    Click the “Apply Now” button below. Select your State, District, and Electricity Distribution Company. Enter your Consumer Number.
  • Step 2: Login & Apply
    Login with your mobile number. Fill out the application form for Rooftop Solar. Wait for “Feasibility Approval” from your DISCOM.
  • Step 3: Installation
    Once approved, choose any registered vendor from the list to install the plant.
  • Step 4: Net Metering
    After installation, apply for a Net Meter. Government officials will inspect and install the meter.
  • Step 5: Get Subsidy
    After the “Commissioning Certificate” is generated, upload your cancelled cheque. The subsidy will be credited to your bank account within 30 days!

Q1: Is the survey mandatory?
Ans: No, you can directly register on the portal. However, the Postman might visit for a basic survey.

Q2: Can I install it in a rented house?
Ans: No, the electricity bill must be in the applicant’s name, or you need the landlord’s explicit permission and documents.

Q3: How much area is needed for 3kW?
Ans: Approximately 300 to 320 square feet of shadow-free roof area is required for a 3kW system.
